  • How to Use Our Grout Sealer

    grout sealer

Restoring grout isn’t just about cleaning it to get that “like new” look, it’s about preventative care, as well. If you know certain areas of grout in the home are in highly trafficked areas or are easily exposed to spills, muck, and other filth, it’s best not only to clean these areas, but seal them as well. Sealing the grout will keep it protected. With a sealer, future maintenance of the grout will be cut down significantly.

At Grout Shield, our quality sealers can be used to seal new tile and grout installations, as well as natural stones and outside concrete. Grout Shield sealers make the grout become impenetrable, which means liquids and stains won’t be able to seep into the grout. The sealers help maintain the grout’s original color, so light and age will have little effect on the grout’s appearance. The sealer also allows for you to easily wipe off dirt, liquids, and other debris that lands on the grout.

Here are the types of sealer we offer, and how to use them:

Grout Shield Clear Sealer – This clear-colored sealer protects newly laid tile and grout from becoming stained, dirty, and discolored.

Grout Shield Color Sealer – This penetrating sealer revitalizes and restores color to the grout. This sealer is a colorant and sealer in one product.

Grout Shield Enhancer Seal –  Our enhancer seal is used on existing ceramic, slate, or Mexican tile floor to make the tiles look vibrant and new again.

To use: Grout Shield sealers are very easy to apply and use with not special techniques required. Apply an even coat of the sealer across the grout lines (or tiles for the enhancer sealer); then, wipe off any excess or pooling; let the area dry thoroughly.

    Purchasing a Sealer
Sealers truly “seal the deal” with grout restoration. With just one coat, a person can save so much money and time down the road with maintaining a great looking tiled surface. The end result of applying a sealer is a well-protected, better-looking floor, wall, pool area, etc.  To purchase or learn more about the different types of sealers, click here or call 1-800-631-0716.

  • All About Grout

    grout

You have grout in your kitchen. You have grout in the shower. You have grout out at the pool. But, what exactly is grout? And what’s its purpose? Grout is a porous, cement or epoxy-based material that locks tiles together to keep out water; it fills in spaces between stone and tiles, which also gives the surface a better finished look. Grout makes floors, walls, counter tops, etc., stronger by bonding the tiles together. Grout also helps prevent the edges of tiles from chipping.

The tiles are usually the star of the show, but grout often becomes noticed when it becomes dirty. All types of grout require maintenance from time to time.  Fortunately, Grout Shield cleaners can clean all types. Here are some details about different types of grout:

Sanded grout – This grout contains fine sand; it is most often used for seams 1/8” and wilder.
Unsanded grout – This grout is usually used for seams less than 1/8” wide. This is a smooth blend of cement and powdered pigments mixed with water.

Epoxy grout – This type of grout can be both sanded in unsanded; it is resistant to most stains and chemicals, because it includes a hardener and an epoxy resin. It is usually used for tiles ½” or less. This grout is best used for heavily trafficked or exposed areas.

Grout also comes in an endless number of colors. Homeowners can choose whether they want their grout to contrast with the tile, be the same color as the tile, or just be a neutral color. The choice of the color is completely dependent on the tastes of the homeowner.

    Cleaning and Restoring Grout
Despite years of grim build up, it is likely most tile can be restored, and doesn’t have to be replaced. With the proper cleaners and sealers, grout can look new and future stains can be prevented or at least not affect the grout as badly as before. Grout Shield’s products can easily restore soiled grout lines to a “like new” appearance.
