  • Transform A Room with Grout Color

    grout color

Grout isn’t just a filler on the floor, walls, or counters keeping the tiles together; it’s also more than a just a medium that keeps tile from cracking. It can also be a huge design element that pulls together the look of a room. It isn’t just important to choose the tile color, but the grout color is just as important. You want your grout color to properly complement your tile color in a way that reflects your personal tastes and desires for the look of the room. When choosing a grout color, there’s some techniques you can follow to help you make a decision.

Matching color – If you’re looking for your floors to be the center of attention in a room, it’s a good idea to blend or match the grout color with the tile color. Why? Any pattern or details in the stone or tile will stand out more.
Neutral color – This is a safe choice; these colors generally match most tiles and make a floor look uniform. It’s not too flashy. Colors include: gray, beige, brown.

Contrasting color – Contrasting colors help the tiles stand out and the grout lines stand out and pop. Black tile with white grout creates a very dramatic effect.

If you’re looking to hide dirt and stains, dark grout color is a better choice; although, dark grout colors can fade over time due to the light.

At Grout Shield, we can match any color in the world when it comes to grout color! You can choose a paint chip from your local store or a color from a major manufacturer or any of Grout Shield’s color codes. Options are endless! Some colors Grout Shield have include: dark ash, summer wheat, light pewter, bone, pueblo, avocado, twilight, dusty rose, and hemp.

Grout Shield’s color sealers change, brighten, and restore the color of your grout; they also seal the grout for protection against future grime and dirt. • Grout Color Can Drastically Change Your Home

    grout color

Installing new tile into your kitchen or bathroom can certainly change the look of the room; the room can go from dated to modern in just that one switch. However, if you aren’t planning on installing new tile any time soon, or cannot afford to re-tile at this time, changing your grout color is just as effective for a big change in a room. The color of the grout can make the tile and room look entirely different.

For example, if you have a dark tile, a light colored grout like white, ivory, taupe, sandstone, or almond, creates a big contrast. A contrast like this looks great on a kitchen backsplash; it can make quite the statement for the room. This contrast between the tile and grout will really pop and add a whole other dimension to the room. Your guests will notice!

Darker grout colors like gray, charcoal, pewter, and even black, tone down the tile (if the tile is also dark) and make it harder for the pattern to stick out. You’ll have a very flat look with the colors being similar. Dark grout color also hides dirt easily. Dark grout color on dark tile and light grout color next to light tile creates a monochrome look and effect in the room.

If you want to use a medium-based color, these aren’t as dramatic as a light or dark grout color. These are a great choice if you have a multi-color tile, so you can bring out one of the colors on the tile with your grout color choice. Or, these medium colors give you a chance to match another color in the room like the wall color, furniture, or accessories.

When choosing a grout color, you’re able to complement or contrast elements in the room in a variety of different ways to truly bring together a great (and different) look to any room in your home.

At Grout Shield, we can match any color in the world to the current grout in your home. Why? We can create any color for you. White? Sage? Ocean Blue? Pale Mauve? Camel? Concord Grape? You name it, we can do it!

  • Grout Care with Pets at Home

    pets and tile

For many homeowners, pets are part of their household and family. Unfortunately, these pets can make quite a mess on flooring; sometimes, dogs and cats can even do some damage to your beautiful floors. If you aren’t replacing your floors anytime soon, the next best thing you can do is purchase quality cleaning products to make your tile floors in your kitchen and bathroom look like you don’t even own a pet!

If you have stone, porcelain, or ceramic tile in your home, you’re probably in good shape. These types of tile don’t scratch easily. And, pet urine doesn’t affect or harm these types of tiles like it would say to a hardwood floor; however, your grout lines might be in rough shape.

There’s a good chance your dog or cat has accidentally relieved themselves on the floor before or dragged in dirt, mud, grass, or anything else from the outside onto your tiles and grout. Unfortunately, grout is porous and any liquid or solid they get on your grout will be absorbed and seep deep below the surface. Because of this, the grout can darken or change color completely. Normal soap and water won’t be able to truly get rid of what your pet left behind. Not only is this unsightly, it can become unsanitary for you and your loved ones to walk on.

If you believe your grout lines are compromised from any spills or accidents from your pets, you’re not alone, and there is a solution. By using proper grout cleaning and grout sealing products, you can transform your grout back to its original color. Grout Shield Grout and Tile Cleaner will remove all dirt and stains from the grout. Just use a mop to distribute the cleaner and allow the formula to saturate into the grout for 10 to 15 minutes. Then, scrub the area with a grout or bristle brush, followed by using a clean rag to wipe away any remaining cleaner.

Since you can’t prevent all accidents from happening with your pets, it’s best you seal your grout after you clean it as well, so it is harder for the grout to become dirty. Grout Shield’s Clear or Color Sealer protects the grout. The color seal allows you to change the color of the grout to any color you want.

If you are looking for an easy way to restore your grout from your pet’s messes without spending a ton of money, purchase Grout Shield grout cleaners and sealers. To learn more about or to purchase Grout Shield’s products, click here or call 1-800-631-0716.

    diy grout restoration

Believe it or not, grout lines can make or break the look of a room in your house. Dirty or cracked grout can make people think your bathroom isn’t clean, or that your kitchen hasn’t been kept up in decades. By knowing how to fix your grout yourself and what cleaning products to use, you can have a practically brand-new looking home!

To repair grout on your own, here are a few simple steps to take to fix it without hiring a professional:

    • --Buy a grout that matches your current grout (or as close as possible)
    • --Remove any loose or broken grout by using a grout saw.
    • --Clean the grout lines where you removed the damaged grout with some cold water and towel dry.
    • --Follow the grout instructions to prepare the mixture
    • --Fill the lines with the grout and make sure the grout is level and straight. To do this, you use a grout float.
    • --Clean the tiles with a sponge from any of the grout that may have gotten on them by accident.

To clean the current grout, one it is all dried and in place, use Grout Shield’s Grout & Tile Cleaner. This cleaner will remove any excess dirt or grease from the old or new grout you just placed down. This cleaner will also clean and remove any previous sealer that was on the grout. After the area is done being cleaned and has had time to dry, apply Grout Shield’s Clear Seal. This clear seal can be applied to seal new or older tile and grout installations. By properly sealing your grout, it will prevent it from getting stained or discolored.

  • Why Does Grout Crack

Unfortunately, grout can crack. Cracked grout is unsightly and can make your beautiful, finished bathroom or kitchen turn look old and unkempt. Why is this happening? If you want to truly find out why your grout is cracking, it’s best to get the area inspected; however, there are few common reasons as to why the grout is cracking in your home.

One reason that cracked grout happens is because of a weak grout structure. When too much liquid/water is in the grout mix, it causes tiny pinholes in the grout; after the grout dries, the grout is more susceptible to cracking because of these little holes. Cement also has to be at the “perfect” hydration level for the grout to be strong; too much water can make the grout weaker.

Another reason grout can crack is because of a thinset (glue) that’s applied over the mortar during installed. If not enough glue was applied, it will pull the tile away from the mortar and create air gaps under the tile. This will result in broken pieces of mortar, cracked grout, and broken tiles. If there isn’t enough glue beneath the tile, the tile will loosen over time, even by simply walking on it. When you walk on it, the tile will move up and down, which will also make the surrounding grout start to crack and crumble.

The reasons above show how cracked grout can be the result of improper installation; however overall, the major reason grout can crack is because the tile is moving. There could be a deflection in the flooring for the type of tile you have, or there has been trauma to the area.

If there is no expansion space around the perimeter of the tiled space, the walls will put pressure on the tile causing the tiles and grout to crack. You also need to make sure your tile has proper soft joints and expansion joints to prevent improper movement from happening that will result in grout cracking.

To fix cracked grout or improperly installed tiles and grout, you need to remove and properly install new tile; then, you can re-grout the floor. If it’s only one small area, you might not have to do over the entire floor or wall, but it’s best to get the area assessed.

Once the area has been repaired, make sure the grout is recessed (lying below the edge of the tiles). After the tile and grout are properly installed, It’s time to use a grout sealer to protect the grout from staining and absorbing dirt, water, and other liquids. If you just spent all this time fixing a tile area, you want it to look its best year round. Grout Shield sealers will keep your grout looking brand new. mold mold

People spend a lot of time in the bathroom, so good hygiene in this area is important. The bathroom is a high moisture area, so germs and bacteria thrive in there. To keep a bathroom clean, people need to regularly clean the toilet, sink, floor, shower, and tub. However, many cleaners still leave the bathroom not looking shiny and new. Many cleaners wipe away germs on the surface, but the area looks like it hasn’t been cleaned at all. Why? Because the grout is stained!

  • Great Review! - WOW! Worked on paint stained grout!

Several years ago I dropped a whole half gallon of paint on my tile floor! The paint easily removed from the tile itself, but it stained the light grout. I had it professional cleaned and scrubbed the grout with bleach and any cleaner I could think of....it was still stained. When I saw this Grout Restoration kit, I really didn't think it would do much, but what the heck. HOLEY MOLEY! PERFECT! I used the cleaner as directed and then the grout color. My floor is perfect again! THANK YOU!!!!

  • Another Great Customer Review! - Refreshed and Like New

I've done my small kitchen three good size bathrooms and still have quite a bit left of cleaner and color with seal. Now I 'm looking forward to how well it will last!
