  • Caring for Your Shower Grout

Your shower gets used and abused! Think about it. Your shower gets used daily, and if you have a family you could have anywhere from 3 to 12 showers a day! That’s well over 1,000 times a year. That’s a lot of usage!

Over time, the tile and grout lines get dirty. A combination of soap, dirty, mold, and mildew will accumulate on both the tile and the grout. The grout, being porous, will absorb all these elements and become discolored.

If you are unsure of how to clean your grout, don’t rely on the search engines online to give you proper cleaning methods. Regular soaps and water will “clean” your tile, but they won’t make your grout look cleaner. Vinegar and ammonia will potentially ruin your tile. With these products, you’ll spend hours scrubbing with little success.

If you routinely clean your shower with a proper tile and grout cleaner, you’ll get to avoid costly repairs or renovations. Most products out there contain harsh chemicals that may look like they’re cleaning your tile and grout but they’re actually wearing down your tile’s shine and your grout’s repellency. Once a grout’s seal is gone, it will absorb anything it comes in contact with. It will be full of water, soap, debris, dirt, mold, mildew, and more! So not only is it dirty, it’s full of germs, as well! It can even start to smell!

If your grout is “permanently” stained, you don’t have to retile and re-grout your bathroom, but rather, use Grout Shield grout products, which are specifically formulated to clean grout.

Here are some Grout Shield’s products that will help clean your grout and tile:

Herea aj Grout Shield Color Sealer – This sealer allows you to match or change the color of the existing grout without having to remove any of the grout. It re-colors and seals your grout, so it’s protected from the elements.

Grout Shield Maintenance Cleaner – If your bathroom needs a good clean, get the maintenance cleaner. To use, dilute the cleaner in water, damp your mop and towel dry.

Grout Shield Restoration Kit – If you need to clean and seal, get this kit. It will help you fully restore your bathroom.

The kits come in different sizes and include: cleaner, sealant, colors, chamois, brushes, and instructions.

Grout Shield Grout & Tile Deep Cleaner –  This is great at lifting deep stains.

Grout Shield grout cleaners and sealers are easy to use, and actually get your bathroom tile and grout clean with less effort. You will save time and money with Grout Shield’s grout products. • Why Should You Clean Your Grout?

Why should you clean your grout? It’s simple: dirty grout is unsanitary. Of course, dirty grout lines are also unsightly, but they’re also loaded with germs. Grout is a porous substance, which  easily absorbs liquids, dirt, crumbs, debris, and more. The grout can be loaded with bacteria.

Your floor grout lines come in contact with so many things including your bare feet, shoes, socks, paw prints, chemicals, food, makeup, and more. If you don’t have a grout sealant and a proper grout cleaner, these grout lines will become stained, and even smell bad! Bacteria and other germs can be living deep in the grout because it hasn’t properly been cleaned.

To truly clean your grout, you need a proper grout cleaner and sealer. These products will make your grout clean and fresh while restoring it to its original color. You don’t want to have yourself or a loved one come in contact with an unsanitary floor or space. Even the bathroom grout lines can easily absorb and harbor germs, mold, and bacteria. Don’t risk your health! Clean your grout right!

Dirty grout can be very difficult to clean and keep clean. Every substance is deeply absorbed.  With the right grout cleaner and sealer, this process becomes a lot easier. You can spend less time and money cleaning the grout, and more time enjoying your beautiful home and loved ones.

So, how should you clean your grout lines? First, sweep the floor to remove any loose dirt or debris on the surface of the tiles and grout. Next, apply Grout Shield’s Grout and Tile Cleaner. Use a mop to distribute the cleaner over the entire floor. Allow the grout cleaner to saturate into the grout for 10 to 15 minutes, then scrub the area with a grout or bristle brush. After you scrub the dirt away, use a clean rag to wipe away any remaining grout cleaner.

After you clean the grout with the cleaner, it’s time to use Grout Shield’s sealers to protect the grout from getting dirty, stained and germ-filled again.

    Keep Your Grout Clean

Cleaning keeps germs away, so you shouldn’t overlook cleaning your grout. After you use Grout Shield’s grout cleaner, ongoing maintenance and restoration is key to keeping these germs at bay. Grout Shield’s grout sealers, as well as our grout Maintenance Cleaner, will keep the floor clean and renewed. To learn more about Grout Shield’s products or to purchase them, click here or call 1-800-631-0716.

  • All About Grout

    grout

You have grout in your kitchen. You have grout in the shower. You have grout out at the pool. But, what exactly is grout? And what’s its purpose? Grout is a porous, cement or epoxy-based material that locks tiles together to keep out water; it fills in spaces between stone and tiles, which also gives the surface a better finished look. Grout makes floors, walls, counter tops, etc., stronger by bonding the tiles together. Grout also helps prevent the edges of tiles from chipping.

The tiles are usually the star of the show, but grout often becomes noticed when it becomes dirty. All types of grout require maintenance from time to time.  Fortunately, Grout Shield cleaners can clean all types. Here are some details about different types of grout:

Sanded grout – This grout contains fine sand; it is most often used for seams 1/8” and wilder.
Unsanded grout – This grout is usually used for seams less than 1/8” wide. This is a smooth blend of cement and powdered pigments mixed with water.

Epoxy grout – This type of grout can be both sanded in unsanded; it is resistant to most stains and chemicals, because it includes a hardener and an epoxy resin. It is usually used for tiles ½” or less. This grout is best used for heavily trafficked or exposed areas.

Grout also comes in an endless number of colors. Homeowners can choose whether they want their grout to contrast with the tile, be the same color as the tile, or just be a neutral color. The choice of the color is completely dependent on the tastes of the homeowner.

    Cleaning and Restoring Grout
Despite years of grim build up, it is likely most tile can be restored, and doesn’t have to be replaced. With the proper cleaners and sealers, grout can look new and future stains can be prevented or at least not affect the grout as badly as before. Grout Shield’s products can easily restore soiled grout lines to a “like new” appearance.
